JANINE JAMES Janine James is recognized within the design community and celebrated by clients for her outstanding work. James combines international business experience, a cutting-edge aesthetic, and mastery of color and texture to create innovative and holistic design solutions. Her remarkable ability to address clients' immediate needs while accurately anticipating future trends makes her an invaluable resource. James begins with extensive research of market and cultural realities as they relate to each client. The knowledge and understanding gained from this process informs every aspect and detail of the project. This holistic approach is exemplified by James' current work for Sundance Cinemas, a new concept in movie theaters developed by Sundance Group and General Cinema, where she is directing everything from corporate identity and product branding to site selection, architecture, landscaping, interior design and environmental graphics for the 53,000 square foot, 15 million dollar flagship in Philadelphia. Janine James began her career in 1978 in the design studio of Knoll International in London. Among her clients were Wang, DeLorean, and the royal palace in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Later that year she joined Herman Miller's London office, where she worked with George Nelson in the innovative Design Lab. Janine worked extensively in the cutting edge designs for the Open Office Landscape while exposed to the world's top researchers in the realms of the changing corporate working behavior and interaction, ergonomics, and the emerging technologies. In 1981 Janine moved to New York as interior designer for Swanke Hayden Connell Architects where she worked on renovations of Colgate Palmolive corporate headquarters, Prudential Bache Securities' corporate offices including three new trading floors, and the American Express corporate headquarters. Four years later James moved to the contract textile firm Unika Vaev, becoming Director of Marketing and Custom Textile Development. In 1986 she was named Director of Design and Product Development for ICF, its parent company. She directed ICF's furniture collections, sales training, and marketing; during her tenure she redefined the firm's image, designing everything from sales materials to showrooms nationwide. ICF's showrooms were widely published and won a number of awards. Janine left ICF in 1992 to launch The Moderns.
